Improve the process before you digitize it.

A faster version of an inefficient process is still an inefficient process. CTQ One starts with how work actually happens, then designs a simpler, more reliable way to deliver the outcome.

Follow the work, not just the procedure.

We examine the journey of a job, order, candidate, or service request. Where does it start? Who touches it? Where does it wait? What changes when something goes wrong? The people closest to the work often know where the official process stops matching reality.

Workflow mapping makes those differences visible. It creates a shared view of the current operation so decisions can be based on the complete journey rather than one department's experience.

Separate value from avoidable effort.

Lean Six Sigma provides a disciplined way to examine waste, variation, and root causes. In plain English, we look for effort that does not improve the outcome and inconsistency that makes the work unreliable.

Repeated approvals, excess movement of information, waiting, duplicate checks, and rework are useful places to investigate. A control may be necessary, but its current implementation may not be. We preserve the purpose while questioning the effort.

  • Identify the constraint limiting the whole workflow.
  • Reduce unnecessary steps before automating them.
  • Standardize routine work while making exceptions explicit.

Design around ownership and real capacity.

A better workflow needs clear entry criteria, an accountable owner, a definition of done, and a path for exceptions. It must also fit the capacity of the people expected to run it. Removing a queue in one place should not simply create a larger queue elsewhere.

We use concrete scenarios to evaluate the proposed process with the team. Software requirements come from that design, not from an unrelated feature checklist.

Make improvement observable.

A baseline connects the problem to a business consequence. We select a small set of measures that show whether cost, time, and quality are improving together. Cycle time alone is not enough if errors or customer effort increase.

The first intervention should be narrow enough to evaluate. Feedback from frontline users helps explain what the measures cannot. The aim is a process the business can understand, maintain, and improve after launch.
